Iona’s Release into the Wild

In January 2022, a Loggerhead Turtle was found washed up on Iona, so poorly that she was not expected to survive. Named for the island, she was brought to Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre where staff worked hard to stabilise her. This involved several visits to McKenzie's where Nadia and the team administered fluids to treat her for dehydration.

Thanks to all the efforts, Iona pulled through and was eventually healthy and well grown enough to travel first to Scarborough Sea Life Centre and eventually to the Azores where she was released into the wild in October 2023.
